ICT in the primary school

I strongly believe that ICT can have a huge impact on childrens learning in the primary school, and therfor will enrich the learning environment of the classroom! please feel free to leave your thoughts on this topic for further discussion...

  1. Hey Mr Ric I must say I strongly agree but feel that how and when ICT is used should be because of a prupose. In my year 3 TP my CT used it all the time but never allowed the children to come up and interact with the board, to me this was ridiculous and didn't enrich any1's life. I changed this and bith my TA's felt that the children progressed further in their ICT but the lessons in which they were involved in. So feel free to discuss some more, lol xx

  2. Ola Ricus, I totaly agree that ICT can have an impact on childrens learning but I think it can a posotive or negative one. When ICT is used properly and is interactive then yeah its great but if its just a pasive experience then pupils aren't really developing their learning, if anything I think pupils when just experience ICT in a passive fashion are having a negative experience as they'll grow up thinking this is the way to use technology. Toodles x

  3. i think you have a really interesting point sam, if as teachers we do not allow children to experience the technology how do we expect them to learn and understand it? I have had a similar experience, where my ct did not even use the IWB because he did not like it! when i used it the children were mesmorised! they loved using it!

  4. Empowerment is the key word for me. Throughout every lecture and the first seminar, we have considered many different ways to be able to empower the children with ICT in the classroom. There was one video we watched in which the children were said to be working at AS-level standard in ICT.

Children who use this outside of the classroom and school, are often being held back by the teacher's lack of inspiration, creativity, innovation and enthusiasm towards the subject, and the children's capabilities are so large, that we must allow them to overtake us, and thrive in the 21st century.

  5. I agree, ICT has a huge impact on children's life and therefor their learning. You will generally not find a child at school who doesn't use a computer or soemthing that is using ICT and most of them will enjoy learning from it. We need to tap into this and inspire them from it.

I agree with Connor that Empowerment is the word to be used. i was amazed when we watched the video clip where children were working at AS level. If children are able to take it to this level we shouldn't stop them, ICT is going to be all around them in the future and we need to encourage this and make them computer literate to help them succeed. What ever people's views are on it we shouldn't hold them back just the same as we shouldn't hold them back in their learning of maths and english.
